Using the new British Gas Electric Driver V9 tariff without an electric vehicle

Hi,

I am just wondering if i sign up to this new tariff (currently on a variable tariff) and i dont have an electric car would it just be fiddling the system or do they actually check things?

It seems to be saving me about £10-£20 a month.

But it does say it will lower the rates to 33% value in off peak times as i would be using the electric to charge my car, which would help as we do a lot of washing and drying of clothes at night.

Or should i sign up for a normal one or leave on variable?

I have thought about changing to another provider but i currently have 3 smart meters connected to my electric 2 are from old suppliers but they never take them away and just leave them there, so i dont want another one as its just looking a mess.

thanks

They'll want proof that you are the owner/registered keeper of an EV.
  • It says in the Legal Information.
    1. We assume you already have an electric vehicle, and your annual energy use already includes energy needed for home charging. If you don’t have a EV yet, or have had it for less than one year, then your estimated annual energy cost will be different to what we’ve calculated. We assumed that each week 33% of the electricity you use is during off-peak hours (12am - 5am). If you regularly charge your car at peak hours, your estimated annual costs will be different to what we've calculated.
So i didnt know if they would ask later for proof.
  • Octopus require proof of EV ownership, so I imagine other suppliers do likewise.

You could ask BG to clarify the situation.
  • A change of supplier doesn't mean you get a new meter- they will simply transfer the supply over and continue to use your existing smart meter, so if a change of supplier will save you money, you may as well go for it!  Meters are usually replaced only when either they reach their end-of-life, or if they develop a fault - but in either of those situations the old meter is removed.

  • When I signed up to their EV last year they never did any checks. I am wondering whether its going to be worth having the ev9 tariff as we use quite a lot during the day and the day rate is higher than the standard tarif. seems like swings and roundabouts. Also leaving the ev9 tariff has a charge where the standard does not.
My thoughts are to change to standard and then see if anything better is out there later so no exit fee and possibly find a better deal. There are a lot of energy providers out there now with better deals.
