October 2024 Grocery Challenge

A moderate £34.46 spent over the last couple of days, between the butcher & the supermarket. We have the basis of 5 days meals in, and plenty more can be made from things in the store cupboard or freezer, so all I should need at the market tomorrow will be some eggs (the Girls have stopped laying for the moult now - feathers everywhere!) fruit & veg, though some olives & hummous will probably find their way into my shopping trolley too. I could get used to feeding 3!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6

Been through my spends finally today, £52 at start of month, £65.70 through the month so far and just under £24 for a gousto box so my head can have a rest for a few days. Husband is in charge of getting some fruit and fresh veg when needed for the week. Have fallen into the habit of going shopping for bargains for something to do, so this needs to stop now. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep ontop of everything again now.
£141.70/350 spent.

I've spent another £37.22 over the last few days on various things including a big restock of chopped tomatoes as that's the one tinned product I use so much I've cleared the backlog of it. I need to pop down to refill shop for some porridge oats today as I'm nearly out and it's very much porridge season now. I'll probably pick up a few extra bits there as I want to try and support small local businesses where possible.
I'm up to £66.19/£3007 -
£56.74 spent today in Sainsburys today. That should be all of our brand name items for this month. Battered fish and mccain fries on nectar offer so bought 2 lots of each. Stocked up freezer last month with offers on meat using a Tesco money off £100.00 shop so I am planning only to buy meat /fish when on offer or yellow stickered from now on. Also planning to shop around what I have more, rather than meal plan and then shop for it. My only regret today was sending DH to find the flora. He put 2 packs into trolly and it wasnt on offer. I only ever buy one if it is at full price. I remembered to check my rewards on nectar app before going and have started new challenge. For every 600 points they will add 300. Doubt I will make that many but worth signing up just incase I do. At this time of year I always look at nectar app first to check who is giving nectar points before do my Christmas shopping so you never know. 🤞i stay on budget this month.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

Another £8.96 to declare as I bought porridge oats, puy lentils, yellow split peas and dried cranberries, pineapple and papaya at the refill shop. I also got a few local beers for myself & OH for this evening but I'm not counting that in the groceries.
I'll need more salad veg and a few bits for DS's food tech lesson early next week but for now I'm at

Made a couple of fruit cakes with store cupboard ingredients yesterday to try and wean DH off of chocolate biscuits. 🤷Managed to do a stock take of top 3 shelves in Freezer. Still have plenty in there. Next week i plan to look at store cupboard for cake making stuff and do some baking for freezer. Its always good to have a cake to pull out at short notice. Beef stew tonight using freezer and fridge meat and veg.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

@Soontobeoap I also made a cake yesterday.Used up the rest of my mixed dried fruit and made a Mary Berry tray bake sprinkled with Demerara sugar, I couldn’t wait for it to get cold to try a piece 😊 One small slice each with our evening tea and coffee. Delicious5

Dashing to add my £42 from Friday's market, nearly all on eggs, fresh fruit & veg; I may have got a bit carried away. But 10 lemons for £1, plus eggs & sugar, equals lemon curd... a favourite thing! I should be able to coast through to next Thursday/Friday but there will probably be some sliced bread needed at some point.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6
