Car Change Insurance and disability road tax

I recently just bought a new car and it will be here on Thursday.

I plan on transferring the ownership for my old one to my father.
The car is taxed free via using my mother disability I believe its for the full year and it probably has about 6 months left on it.

As I understand once I transfer ownership to my dad then he would need to tax and insure the car himself and the tax that I have on it currently would stop. Normally I think you get a refund for the tax for the months you didn't use. As I am using the free disability tax what exactly happens?

In my head they'll send something so I can re use the tax but could be completely wrong, We plan on reusing the tax on the same car as my new car is a EV and its free.

I'm hoping that makes sense if not please let me know
