Double check if your debit card is declined!

Didnt quite know where to put this but I suppose it qualifies as a warning. If anyone has used a debit card the last few days and had it declined it may be wise to double check your bank statement.
Last week I used my debit card in a shop and it was declined. I then tried again using my PIN but again the transaction was declined so I paid with cash.
Later on checking my online banking it showed that both the payments had been taken.
Thinking it was some sort of fluke I wasnt worried and have been back to the shop and showed them my statement and all is sorted.
I work in a shop and yesterday had a customer who had her payment declined, she tried twice and both times it was declined so she paid me cash. Like me she was sure she had funds in her account to cover the requested payment.
The next customer also had her card declined and paid cash. At this point suspecting some sort of issue I stopped taking card payments for the rest of the day.
When I ran the till report on closing it showed that I had taken payments from those 2 customers even though the cards were declined and payment had been accepted so I now have 2 customers who will find they have paid twice when they check their statements.

You say you work in a shop, but do you know what a pending transaction is?2

My card wouldn't work in a supermarket yesterday initially, just checked by bank account based on the above, whilst my available balance looks correct I am missing a large number of transactions since Friday. I've spent over £300 this weekend and only have my main grocery shop this morning on pending of £95.
I've had missing pending transactions before but I think I'm missing 8! 9 even as I withdrew cash too.
I made a purchase in Harrods in July, and it took about a month to show as a transaction in my account.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

One very good reason to ask for a receipt.
