Thinking of opening a new current account (not switching) and would prefer one woth a UK call centre

With bank branches closing I am thinking of opening a new Current Account.  I would prefer one with a UK call centre.

There is a TSB branch still open in my area and, any opinions would be welcome. I don't  know if TSB has a UK call centre or has plans for branch closures.

Thank you for any suggestions.

  • I bank with TSB and I've always spoken with a UK call centre when I've called them.

If you like to do your banking over the phone, then First Direct are the best.  Their call centres are in Leeds and Hamilton (Scotland).

Thank you very much for all these helpful replies and links.  My nearest TSB branch is not on the list for closure and, since it seems to have a UK Call Centre, that sounds like a good choice for me.

I prefer having access to a local branch and, although I am not enthusiastic about telephone banking, there times when it is very helpful and I prefer a UK Call Centre.  I'll look into the best TSB Current Account for me.  Many thanks.

    First Direct all the way.
UK call centres and the person you first speak to can almost always do the biz without putting you on hold or transferring you to someone else.

You can use HSBC branches if you have a First Direct account.

It is rumoured that TSB is up for sale. It's Spanish owner Sabadell is facing a takeover bid.

    Another +1 for First Direct.
The following caution might be out of date. There was one action I needed over 15 years ago which FD didn’t do themselves so they transferred me to a HSBC call centre I am guessing in India.
My memory of this is hazy but I think it was to transfer money to somebody in another country (USA I think).
But as I said this was a long time ago and I don’t know if the process is still the same. Nor do I know if there are any other tasks which FD don’t do themselves but get HSBC to do.

Edited to add: I just remembered. It wasn’t a money transfer but creating a banker’s draft.

It would be funny if Lloyds buy TSB back

I think that is very unlikely given that Lloyds were required to sell off TSB for competition reasons and I’m not aware that banking has become significantly more competitive since then.
