Pillow ticking?
May not be fine crafting but I thought this was the best place for people who knew about fabrics.
Both my best feather pillows went to pot at the same time.
And the local fabric shop changed hands.
The ticking the new owners sell is to me soft and thin, not the stuff I've bought before. I looked online but your can't see the weight or thread count from sellers. I did see one that had the waxing applied but darned if I can find it now.
So I was hoping that someone knew the ins and outs, what I should look for from a good pillow ticking fabric in my searches.
These pillows came down from my grandparents = or may be earlier and in the past I've emptied the feathers out in bin bags, aired them, washed the ticking and alls fine. Better than anything you buy now so I'd really like to restore them.
I could rewax the original covers at a pinch but wouldn't have a clue how to go about that.
Any help greatly appreciated.

If you google-" feather proof ticking fabric uk" a whole raft of suppliers appear and they talk about waxed fabric. Quite a few on ebay starting from modest prices.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Hi,
1. Many online fabric shops offer a free fabric samples or swatch service.
You could also contact them in advance and ask for the thickness and/or fabric weight etc.
2. You could also ask your local fabric shop if they could get samples of different types of ticking for you to look at. They may oblige - because they are new in town and would want to retain your business. .1 -
Thanks both.Katie that's not quite what I put in the search, sometimes it helps to get another idea. I'll try that.Starlight, I hadn't thought of samples for something so utilitarian. I haven't a clue about weight and thickness except by feel and sight. The last owners of the shop were just brilliant. They seemed to have everything and the knowledge so I haven't needed to worry. Unfortunately the people who have taken over have random peeps serving (or chatting) who don't have any knowledge and have got a 'what's that' or 'we haven't got it. Won't be getting it' etc so I seldom go in now. Glad I stocked up on linings and such before the lovely owners left.
