Hi,
It will be a while till I retire, in about 15 years, but I am wondering what happens to my rent and what kind of benefit I will be entitled to, is it going to be my pension ? Who is covering my rent ?

Who is covering my rent ?Why do you think you will receive any form of benefit ?Will you be on a low income when you retire ?Will you have any savings ?Are you disabled ?Have you checked your state pension entitlement ? https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pensionWho will cover your rent - generally you unless your income is below a certain amount. There are lots of benefits available but the majority are means tested so without more information about your circumstances no one can say what you will be entitled to.

You might get housing benefit. See Housing Benefit: Eligibility - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
But obviously the rules could change before then.0 -

Who is covering my rent ?You will always be liable to cover your rent as you have entered into a legally binding tenancy agreement with whomever you rent the property from. You may be entitled to some help towards your rent (for example, Housing Benefit), but it will always be you that is legally liable to ensure your rent is paid. Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter0 -
Are you talking about state pension (have you checked your forecast)? Have you checked your workplace pensions? Depending on the projections you may need to downsize to a cheaper rented property?0

They are covering their rent, but their pensions alone are not sufficient. For this reason they are both still working part time.

it is one of the problems of renting - people who have had a mortgage have usually managed to pay it off by the time of retirement so just have the usual CT / maintenance / utilities to fund2

So it is means testes benefits depending on work and state pension and there will be a threshold when to start covering the rent.0

Would this discussion be more appropriate in the benefits section?

Really a bit pointless asking what the rules are now - 15 years is a long time in politics.7
