Council tax - Uni student studying from home / Single Person Discount

Hello, I'm hoping for some help here.
I live with my two young adult 'children'. They are both university students. There is no one else living in my home other than the three of us. So, I am claiming a single person discount on my council tax.
My daughter has just gone back to university. But, my son had a lot of difficulties last year and has not yet managed to arrange his accommodation for this year. He will start the university year studying from home. (All the lectures are recorded and available online so he assures me he can do that. I'm also doing everything I can to encourage him to get back to his university.) It is also a proper, full time degree course.
I had difficulties with my local council over my council tax recently so I don't want to do the wrong thing and get into trouble. However, as part of their enquiries, they asked whether my daughter had ever stayed at home and commuted to university. I never understood why. Would that affect my council tax discount?
Is there any reason that having my son staying home for a while in term time will affect my single person discount?
The last thing I need is a big bill later in the year if they discover there's an issue and backdate charges.

If someone is a full time student, they are invisible for council tax.

My daughter has today received a letter from her school, where she is a trainee teacher, she is exempt from council tax.
