Hello
Had a new gas boiler and rads along with hive fitted
Engineer who fitted said best location for thermostat is in the hall way
Hall way is the coldest part of house about 2c colder than lounge
All rads have trv valves apart from radiator in the hall where thermostat is fitted
The thermostat is wireless so I can move
Rest of rads in house are set to no 3 on trv as want house to be 18-20
Would appreciate any advice
Thanks

I have had the Hive thermostat for 18 months now, it sits on the tv cupboard about half a meter off the floor.

I never move it about and I set the heat either through the app or tell Alexa to set it

As far as I’m concerned the correct heat needs  to be where I mostly sit never mind where the thermostat is

Set it up in the hall then but it will need to be set at a temperature where you will be warm in the lounge

    The number means nothing

If you’re  not warm where you normally sit the the number is obviously too low

A significant point here is that the hall heating isn't separately thermostatically controlled. There is a danger with having a global thermostat (the Hive) and a local one (the TRV) in the same space, because they will compete with each other for dominance in that space. It would make most sense to me to have the Hive thermostat in the hall and have it set to give the right temperature there. Then adjust the TRVs in the other rooms (a tedious business) to suit.

This rather assumes, of course, that the hall isn't subject to frequent outside influences, like having the front door open. If that is the case, you'd have to rethink.

    Just to clarify

I have TVRs in every room except the hall, all set at 5

1 Bedroom flat ground floor EPC B

Duel fuel bill £700 per year

If I’m not warm the heating goes on be it July or February

Go back about 30 years and it was quite normal to have a fixed thermostat in the hall.  Maybe the thinking was that the hall temperature was likely to be an average of the temperatures in the adjoining rooms?  But if the hall gets a blast of cold air every time someone opens the outside door then it's a terrible idea.  The modern way is to put the thermostat in the room you spend most time in.  But whichever room you choose, set the TRV in that room to Max.

You also need to factor in sunshine and want to avoid putting it somewhere where it's in direct sunlight as that will fool it into thinking it's warmer than it really is.

That's exactly where my Hive 'stat is located. It's about 1.5m above the floor, on it's wall bracket, in the living room. Two rads.(T.R.V.s fitted) in the room with the 'stat located as to not be directly influenced by them.
I also have a portable stand which was used to find the best position before the bracket was fixed to the wall. (It will stand on a surface on it's own though).
The original wired 'stat was in the hall and it had to be set/adjusted for the desired temp. in the living room.
Logic dictated that's the best room for it - in my circumstances.
