Cheque - wrong surname spelling.

Got a cheque from the bank.
Machine printed surname incorrectly
Should be Mr D Book but instead got Mr D Brook
Cover letter was right with surname.
(Just an example but very similar. It added a letter in middle when it shouldn't)
Now should I bank it through the bank machine ??? Will it go through?
Over £1000 so have to do in branch.
If it does bounce
a) will I get charged for bounced cheque (obv I can claim it back from issue bank)
b) how long after would it be safe that it won't get bounced(?)
I am going on holiday on Monday so the money won't be touch for 2 weeks.

probably will do - try it and see what happens0

If you're paying the cheque in at a branch, the cheque details will be visually checked by the bank cashier.
It's unlikely that the cheque (and payee name) will be looked at by anyone else (ever).
So if the bank cashier accepts the cheque, it's almost certainly done and dusted - with almost no risk of it bouncing later due to the misspelled payee name.
(If the bank cashier queries the misspelled payee name, showing them the covering letter might, or might not, help to convince them.)
If you're paying it in by a machine that reads the cheque, it's likely to be a similar situation. If the machine accepts the cheque, it's unlikely that a human will later look at the payee name on the cheque - so it's unlikely to bounce later.
But if the machine rejects the cheque, speak to a bank cashier - and see if they will accept it. (I've had cheques rejected by the machine, but then accepted by the bank cashier.)

I've paid in cheque for Steven when account says Stephen. If at counter talk about weather or something bank related as distraction technique. Plus wear nice aftershave.0

There is a high chance it will just go through.
You wont be charged a bounced cheque fee though. A bounced cheque fee is where you write a cheque but have insufficient funds in your account to pay for it and your bank 'bounces' it.0 -
Should be fine0

I paid in a cheque which was wrote out nine hundred and ninety nine pounds but was £99.99 in the small box (it was supposed to be £99.99) and it went through
only reason I didn’t ask for a replacement was it was a cashback offer and company took for ever to honour the offer0 -
But what went thru? Nine hundred ninety nine or 99.99?0

£99.99 the correct amount0

Think I've had a cheque with wrong surname (as in very similar but not correct) as it went through fine. It was hand written, so there's always the poor handwriting argument0
