Is there a straightforward way to get rid of the charge? I've seen mention of downgrading but not sure if this then loses the 7% saver?1

Once you downgrade the Edge current account you will have 60 days to open a new Edge current account. During this time your Edge saver will continue as normal.1 -
Just out of curiosity has anyone got there £36 yet0

Highly unlikely as the terms of the offer state they'll check eligibility 30 days after account opening & pay the £36 approximately 30 days after the check confirms eligibility. So early November is going to be the time for the £36 to be credited for early responders to the promotion

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
