APCOA Parking Ltd (UK) appeal

We just received a debt recovery plus letter this morning for "an unpaid parking charge" at Southampton airport on 19th July 2024. This was the first we knew even though they say APCOA sent out the original. So instead of the option to pay £50 they now want £150 by the 16th. I've asked for the original document sent by APCOA and evidence it was sent as we honestly get so little mail that we could not have missed it had it been delivered.
I was dropping off a hire car and my husband literally stopped on the road long enough for me to jump into the passenger seat. Am going back at the weekend to see where it states there are fines as I never saw anything on the day.
Is there any way we can still appeal or even pay the original £50?

DO NOT CONTACT THEM.
Ask the hire firm to show you the reply they sent to APCOA. Did they give out your correct address? Seems odd you got no PCN.
And complain to APCOA that no Notice to Hirer was sent to you. Tell them you'll report them to the BPA.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
