Car breakdown Cover

I work for the NHS and there is always a discount code for the AA, making it cheaper. This year in the small print on my current policy it says you can no longer use the discount unless you  are new to the AA and not had a policy before.

interesting - I left the AA  after about 35 years as they got too expensive - used to phone them up and they would give me a £50 discount for being in NHS. In the end I went to RAC via an NHS link and that seems fine

I use GEM for breakdown cover.  Fair price and excellent service.
It's always better to get cheap AA cover rather than full price AA cover...but will the AA get to your quickly if/when you need them?

Phone them up and they'll give you the discount anyway. Also do a quote on the RAC site as a new customer, tell the AA and they'll match it, they're fully aware of their competitors.

It really is easy, my 87 year old mum phoned them and they halved the premium from £230 to £110 before she'd hardly spoken to them.
  • The above comment is true.  Phone them and threaten to leave and they'll come back with a price comparable with newbies.

I think the 'loyalty penalty' issue has been addressed for motor insurance. It ought to be rolled out to other businesses.
  • Have a look on  Facebook   how bad are the  RAC,  have  now moved to  GEM
  • I would welcome advice. Just had renewal quote, 4 times higher than last year. When asked why I was told it was because I had used the breakdown cover. Is this normal?
