Private number plate

i changed my number plate on sunday, then informed the insurence company on monday, they couldent do much about it at that time because probably that it wasent fully updated on dvla yet,now it is, so when i came back from work i found an email from the insurence company saying that they have a problem with my insurence, would i be right in thinking that they have seen the change and that the guy i spoke to hasent told anybody else, so an issue has arisen.

I have and its interesting, as i wasent able to change reg online and they couldent either, they cant make a charge.so in otherwords they cant make any money out of me and its thrown an error on their system and/or that of their underwriters.
they all just want your MONEY, you are not important !!!
so if i had rang them in the first place and they were able to charge me it wouldent be a problem

What a strange thing to say.

You should have checked your documents which would have been updated had the change been made.

When an insurer/broker messes up and records a registration incorrectly (and even sometimes when its the customer's fault) the company will issue the person with a letter of indemnity that confirms that despite they were not on MID nor had an appropriate certificate of insurance that the company will cover them for any losses. It's the only get out of jail free card that exists for the offence. After all an insurer covers a vehicle/driver not a registration plate.

As to pricing changing due to registration... you can always postulate if you want... its new on this vehicle so they couldn't trace it on CUE and lack of history is a risk; that thieves may incorrectly assume someone with a private plate is likely to have a better vehicle/more optional extras etc (similar to debadged vehicles being more expensive to insure); they could be using registration plate as the seed for pricing sensitivity analysis.
