Capital One - Payment this month?

I have a DD set to “pay in full” every month. On the Capital One web page it tells me it was due on 4th September, nothing is showing on my online banking app, anyone else found this? Today Capital One have sent me the notification saying next one is due 2nd October. Is it worth me asking at my bank why the payment has not gone out? I don’t want to get charged interest for not paying, hence my DD in full.

Yes for as long as I’ve had the card, over three years.

I prresume there was an outstanding balance to pay on your statement that was due for payment on 4th September? If it was a nil outstanding balance then there would be nothing to take by DD.
Or, did you manually pay off the outstanding balance from the statement before the DD was due to be paid?
Do Cap One have a live 'state of play' with your card on its website and/or app and does this show any payment(s) made to your account (including the DD)?
Don't forget any DD should be covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee, so if there has been an error your bank should correct it.

There was/is an outstanding balance, hence setting up the DD to “pay in full” every month, when I use the card. I had not paid anything manually. Not sure I know how to, when I look there are a few options and it did confuse me, I’d happily pay it manually for this month as something seems to have gone awry, be it my bank or Capital One, I’m thinking more my bank since it does say on Capital One that it would be taken on September 4th and allow 5 working days for it to show, those days have passed and yet again this morning nothing is showing on my bank app. Last payment from bank to CO was August 4th. Thank you for the info regarding DD Guarantee, I assume it will be something I will need to check if they add interest.

Shame it has happened at this time, since it has a plane ticket on for next month, a lot more than it would normally have but rather than use my bank debit card (the money is in there for the DD when CO take it) I just used the credit card for the added extra insurance CCs give over debit cards.

  • Update:

I called both my bank and Capital One. The bank had not received a request for payment in September but confirmed the DD is still in place, so I called C1 to find out why no request was made. Answer, because I had received a refund from Klarna for a cancelled AirBnB they supposedly took the DD money that was due in September from the refund. Not sure how that worked as the money has been added to the new transaction, so I am keeping an eye out. I think it just means that I will be paying the same money but in October.  The refund did not take the outstanding money and then just repay the remainder but the refund triggered a payment in so they did not ask for a DD payment. As I have said the money is in my bank account ready for “payment in full” but it will be in October.

If you are referring to S75, which covers breach of contract &/or misrepresentation. That is not insurance.

Other than that both Debit & Credit cards have the same chargeback rights 👍

Hoping I would not need to use whatever the CC offers beyond a DC but ML and other programmes always suggest using CC if you can. Holidays are often mentioned. I do of course have “real” Travel Insurance the CC was just for the added protection.
