hi all can anyone advise
today i got some work done on the house and was left the invoice to pay
it says on the invoice bank transfer details, they also said to me i can pay on card and call the office
it says on the invoice credit cards carry a 5% charge
i thought that was against the law? i am wanting to pay it on my credit card as i have a 12 month 0%

Or maybe it's just old invoice stock and they haven't noticed that they should have changed it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you want to quote chapter and verse on the subject: Regulation 6A of The Consumer Rights (Payment Surcharges) Regulations 2012, as amended by the Payment Services Regulations 2017, bans merchants from charging a fee in addition to the advertised price of a transaction on the basis of a consumer’s choice of payment instrument (for example, credit card, debit card or e-money).

so they can refuse credit cards i take it, i know in my last job in wholesale they wouldnt accept them
and the production labels were dated may 24 so newish stock0 -
They can refuse credit card payments, but if their invoice says you can pay that way (ignoring the illegality of the charge), plus they told you before the work was done that you could pay that way, I'd have thought they would find it difficult to now turn round and say they have changed their mind! Much less convince a judge you were intentionally refusing to pay (if it ever got that far)...0

Note that the rules only apply to consumer cards, they are entitled to charge for business/corporate cards. If they dont normally do private work it could also be why they stipulate the fee.0

called them up for payment, and took credit card without any fees0
