Build a new ceiling?

What would you do with this space above landing? How much would it cost to build a loft, has anyone had it done?

  • Minstrels Gallery? Seriously, I think the open void with rooflight you have looks great.

Thank you - it's good to hear because all I see is a large void that will be difficult to heat in winter, and a scary little door into the loft that's wayyy too high for me to climb 😭

I think you need someone to shut the door to the loft and make sure no drafts form it. As you have what looks like a small lip (top of architrave - one above light)  would it be possible to cut some ply to exact size (so it rests on lip) to fit space. Don‘t fix it to anything as you need access to the loft in emergencies and you will need to check skylight does not leak/condensate. Just a thought.

    Thank you 💖
  • The skylight looks to be in poor shape, I would look at replacing it with a   Velux window, and think about fitting that with a solar powered blind.
