Water ingress around chimney

Its a two floor property. The problem area can be accessed by a single piece ladder placed on the ground floor extension roof.

The issue was much worse but we had a roofer visit and apply a fix of along the parapet (that was his idea of a fix) from ridge down to the chimney. Its sorted 80% of the issue. However, we had heavy rain over the weekend and noticed some water still drip through. That was actually his second visit as initially, he has recommended pointing mortar at a cost of £250

The roofer revisited and suggested the solution here would ideally, be flashing/felt around the chimney, but as the gap between the chimney and loft extension is about 6 inches it is a difficult area to get a heat gun in. This was the reason he stopped and didn't go further down.

He is now saying we need a roller applied liquid called liquid 10, primer and tape with an additional quote of £560. We have already paid £250 then £1,200 including for a tower to fix the problem.

It is crazy to say it seems to be dragging on, mostly have an incorrect assessment of the problem at the start?

Are there alternative solutions, maybe even something I can apply myself with a long roller?

Thank you

That will be a !!!!!! to work around, but I don't see why a heat gun is being used.  That flashing around the chimney is a right state.

The picture isn't all that clear, but it looks like it could be cured with a lead valley that is tucked under the chimney flashing. You can get temporary roofing repairs, liquid rubber etc, but that is probably only going to last a few years.
