Could this cordless Lidl hedge be fixed, though i doubt it.

Hi folks,

I bought this cordless hedge trimmer from Lidl in 2021 april so out of three year guarantee.

20V Cordless Extendable Hedge Trimmer - Lidl Northern (lidl-ni.co.uk)

It is extendable so one pole slips inside another pole, then pulled apart so that adjoining holes in poles meet, and I believe are then locked with for want of a better word with those fixed spring loaded screw ( same setup on foldable walking sticks as well as other items)

What is the proper name for that locking mechanism?

Anyway the locking screw seems to be missing now when I line up the corresponding holes on the two poles (I take it, it has somehow slipped inside that pole that it was in}.

Other than to put a screw through the holes to lock the poles, do you think there is any chance of fixing it, as out of guarantee.?

Many thanks.

Look on Amazon for "push button spring clip"
    Something like that might work?

The pin is probably stuck inside the pole. If you can pull the poles apart, you should be able to see it inside the inner pole. I'd suggest squirting some WD40 down the tube as a lubricant, and then use a long thin stick and try to pull the pin. You migth get lucky and be able to manipulate it so that it pops back into the correct hole, but in my experience it's more likely you will need to remove it, unbend the spring so that there is a bit more tension in it and then reinsert it into the inner pole. It won't be easy, but it's a cheap fix if you can do it.

If you can't, I'd definitely just drill holes all the way through and insert a bolt. That would be another cheap fix.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Could you cope with it permanently in one piece? Would storage be an issue? If not, glue the shaft together.

Thanks, a lot of the time I do use it in the extended position so do need that option, I do notice when I pull the poles apart, there is some sort of a spring mechanism that gives some resistance, so think there  is a spring somewhere inside one of the poles too, definitely not the pin thing as it wa always like this.

Think they are coming on soon again at Lidl for £49 so will keep that in mind as well, definitely saved over three years using it, rather than get someone in to cut hedge, though they might do a better job.

I do notice other extendable brands on sale and advertised, but I would think they probably use that pin spring thingy as well.
  • Photos would help, but fair chance the springy part has bent, possibly beyond repair. You could simply wrap a short piece of duct tape around the joint when needed, and this would almost certainly hold it secure enough for each use :-)

Along with a selection of hammers ranging from tiddly little toffee all the way up to a 14 pounder (all with proper wooden handles).

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • Back again folks,

Hedge trimmer is out of warranty with Lidl, but just wondering if anyone who has one of these Parkside Extendable Trimmers could check if they have screws in the following places where indicated? this might well be what  is leading to the fault.
