Seeking Advice: Disputing Additional Cleaning Fees Post Tenancy

Options

Hello,

I recently moved out of a one-bedroom rental property and hired a professional end-of-tenancy cleaning service, including carpet cleaning. Despite this, the checkout report noted that the carpet was not fully cleaned, along with a few minor cleaning issues. Consequently, I've been charged an additional £400+ for cleaning fees, which includes another round of professional carpet cleaning.

I acknowledge some cleaning issues weren't fully addressed, but the charge seems excessively high. Should I dispute the charges given that I hired professional cleaners and the cleaning issues are minor?

Any advice on how to proceed or share similar experiences would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

You were legally required to return the property in the same condition as that in which you received it, less fair wear and tear.

When you compare the photos from the incoming inventory and the inventory when you left, how does it compare?

£400 is a lot to clean a 1 bed, for that kind of cash I'd expect it to be totally filthy with rubbish left. Compare your checkout photo's to the inventory pics, and dispute it with the deposit scheme. How long were you there btw? If it was 6 - 12 months I'd expect it back very clean, the longer you were there the more allowances would be made.

  • My daughter has been in her rented house for a few years, and I have offered to pay for a professional clean when she finally buys a property.

How did the professional cleaning company explain their lack of thoroughness?  I'm assuming you paid them quite a bit? Did they take photographs?
