asbestos in storage heaters?

I bought an ex council house 3 years ago, built in the 30's.
I need to remove the original Sunhouse overnight storage heaters and install new ones. I am told its possible they have asbestos. The heaters are 40 odd years old.
How can I find out if they have asbestos. I have been In touch with both the local and district council. No one can tell me. Do I dismantle the radiator to see if they contain asbestos ?
Any help or advise please

Google (can be ..) your friend...

Obviously taking one apart will show you, but might be a bad idea...1 -
To add. I have contacted Sunhouse but it seems they will only deal with companies not individules.0

A 40 year old storage heater is likely to have asbestos in it. Asbestos was widely used, and apart from the toxicity it was perfect for the job.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1

No generic list would be able to determine whether asbestos-containing materials were added during installation, or possibly during subsequent maintenance. For example an installer may have fitted the heater using an asbestos-containing backing or base to insulate it from the wall/floor."Asbestos free" isn't a phrase I'd use about anything.0

I didn't investigate or research when I was 21 and living in a rented flat, I just dismantled the storage heater. I was surprised to find so many bricks, I'm embarrassed to say I put them out on the balcony!£216 saved 24 October 20140
