Strangest item you've seen in a charity shop

We parked for free yesterday near the town bowling green where there was a match in progress. Shortly afterwards we were in the charity shop when one of the players dashed in and asked if they had a belt because his had broken and his trousers kept falling down as he bowled. He was a skinny chap, the men’s belts were too large, but they found him a ladies’ belt for £2.50.3

What an odd question @Grumpy_chap, ladies’ belts are in another part of the charity shop with women’s clothes. They are usually smaller and thinner, and they are often fashion items, brightly coloured and decorative rather than functional. When there is a bewildering choice, such as three tins in a cupboard, most men cannot find the item for which they are searching. The sensible woman realised that the man was in a panic and found him a ladies’ plain belt to meet his needs.0

Don't you just thread it the other way?Katiehound said:

It would appear as though you have had the pleasure to encounter some of the very best examples of the male of the species. I once came across a copy of The Poisonwood Bible on a CS Religion shelf. In case you’re wondering , DH enjoys philosophy and philosophy books are sometimes found in the Religion sections. I often wondered if anyone bought the book, read it and abandoned Religion!0

I “found” the most delightful young volunteer in our heart charity shop, who told me about his passion for designing and sewing gothic dresses while we examined the vintage jewellery. Later there were some students, on work experience, I think, organising the non-fiction books, causing a lot of chuckles. It is the people who make a good charity shop.0

Yes but no but. Many belts have a picture or logo or something either on the buckle or on the belt itself. And so there will be a proper "up". So if you thread it the wrong way everything is upside down. you get the same problem with pencils and pens if you are left handed (pick one up with your left hand and look at the logo)Grumpy_chap said:

Another reason to have things all the same in my opinion for clothing at least. Personally having been raised with older brothers and always getting hand me downs I didn't know that there was a women's vs men's way to button etc until I was in my mid twenties and someone pointed it out to me. I just thought it was random.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
