www.office.com and use Microsoft Office online.
docs.google.com is another which can be exported in Word format.

Better option than the likes of LibreOffice.

Unless stuff has particular fonts or formatting you could use the MAC provided apps, Pages, Numbers etc

If you were using a licenced version of Office then the licence may still be available to use with Microsoft 365.
  • Apples own Pages, Numbers, Keynote etc are free. I think anyway. They’re quite good as well.
  • FreeOffice is one option.

What year was it made (look for About This Mac) and which OS does it run? Macbook airs have been going for about 16 years.
You might be able to buy a compatible MS Office suite for not very much.
But I've got to also say Pages, Numbers, Keynote are really fine for me.
I've learned from long experience the benefits of getting an external drive and using Time Machine to make backupsin the background.

If you don't need offline use, I suggest ruling out the free online version of MS Office before trying anything else.
