@EssexHebridean you misunderstand....the text isn't giving you a parking fine. It states you have a parking fine and you are being asked to pay it via the link provided.

And if you search here you will find solicitors and debt agencies representing private parking operators send text messages to motorists re PCN payments, important letters are waiting for you etc
Some motorists haven't even received a postal pcn.

I don’t misunderstand. You will not receive a legitimate demand for payment of a debt or fine by text. Thus the best advice for such text messages is to ignore them - if there is a legitimate parking fine to be paid, then assuming that your address details are correct with the DVLA, a letter will arrive through the post. No letter = no fine.

Think about it - how would the person who is claiming that there is a fine payable have got your mobile number? It’s not noted on your car registration document, is it!

  • Some debt recovery companies do send text messages. However these will be accompanied by other contact methods at the same time ( phone calls, emails, letters ).

Depends on the what contact information the claimant had on file and what they passed to the debt collectors. Speaking from experience here, had a case where i requested to cancel a mobile phone contract and the supplier did not act upon my request immediately and were trying to extort an additional 1 month's payment.  Until they wrote off the debt, I was getting 1 x letter, 3 automated phone calls, 3 texts and 3 emails per week.

However considering the above, the PPC model don't usually send Text messages. They just send letters, and you are lucky if they even bother to do this at all.
