And solid fuel stove or open fire - These can be just as dangerous as gas appliances.
Open fires produce a lot more carbon monoxide than an efficient gas appliance. The only advantage with an open fire or wood burner is that if it's leaking you can usually tell. Small, regular leaks of Carbon monoxide can sometimes be worse than one big one, as they can do irrepairable damage.

While I agree a CMMonitor is a good idea don't make the comments scare you. Just make you alert.
I've lived with coal fires, log burners and gas fires with none of todays ventilation and survived 70yrs on it lovely and warm and cosy.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Make sure smoke alarms are in place and functioning, have a CO2 Alarm in every room you have a gas burning appliance.
Check around for draughts, if windows are showing problems like that try caulking rope as temp fix.
    Boiler and fire service.

Apart from that as others have said enjoy your home for a year before planning any big expenditure.
It's carbon MONoxide rather than DIoxide that is the killer. CO2 is what makes drinks fizzy.

Make sure you search for a decent branded CO (carbon monoxide) alarm. Fireangel are a good brand.

True have edited my post to suit.

Although CO2 is not as benign as you imply. There is always plenty of signs telling you to vacate the premises sharpish if in a room or installation that has a CO2 fire suppression system in place.

That will be for the risk of suffocation (ie displacement of the oxygenated air we need to breathe) rather than any direct effect from CO2. Same as nitrogen used to displace air in aircraft fuel tanks (ie make sure they are ventilated, and empty, before you go in there).
