BMW Recall safety issue Air bags

October 2023 we were advised of a serious safety recall for our BMW X6, both of the airbags required urgent replacing. Pretty serious I would say? The earliest date we received was March 2024.
Literally upon the date we were advised by telephone 'only the passenger air-bag was available', that we could attend and have that replaced OR re book when both were available. As you can imagine the principal Air Bag would surely be the drivers, as that how these vehicles work !! WE chose in the telephone conversation, to wait for both to be available to avoid having to go through the matter twice, customer cars along with insurance etc. I wrote on the 2nd August this year as we had received  nothing further on the matter. Still no reply as yet, so I have emailed again today September 7th 2024, approaching 10months  after the initial contact and advisory of this serious safety issue which could result in injury should the air bag deploy. What will happen next ? I am putting my seat back as far as it will go for now in case that helps!?

AFAIK it's the 'knee air-bags' which are possibly faulty in that they may not deploy at all.

Check on the DVLA recall website with your reg number.

Is it an early X6?

They would have been affected by the Takata Mexico fiasco, where the inflator goes off too enthusiastically and fills the cabin with a hailstorm of metal fragments.

Pretty much the whole world used Takata inflators, my 2008 Renault Nissan had both replaced because of it, the last one during the Covid lockdown. It took them years to get around to recalling it, the problem was well known in 2013.

Takata went bust in 2017, so if your x7 is after that it will be the "knee airbags might not go off" recall as Iceweasel says, which is less of a concern (from the point of view of sitting behind it)
