Travel Insurance guidance

We have two weekend breaks coming up. One in Ireland. The other in Portugal. Within six weeks of each other. Both with car hire.
I am looking for travel insurance and car hire insurance. What would be my best deal? Two separate travel policies for each trip and two car hire policies? One travel policy for six weeks and one car hire policy? Or a policy that covers everything? Or just take a Europe only policy for a year that covers everything (May look to extend to worldwide for the twelve month period)?
I presently have no travel insurance and have no medical issues

I have found annual policies to be better value than single trip ones. Never had a policy for car hire as that's never been an issue.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
