in Credit cards
I got a credit card that charges me every year for perks I don't use.
I got the first year free but in October, I'll get charged for £200 odd.
The company have a free version that I'd like to apply for.
I just completed a re-mortgage about 7 days ago.
Is now a good time?

Difficult to say without more detail of the options you'll face, i.e. if you didn't pay £200 and didn't succeed with your application, do you have any other credit cards and/or actually have any need for credit?0

If the card you want is with the same provider, why not give them a call and ask for your account to be downgraded to the free version. Its worth a shot!0

Presumably this is Amex Gold? I can't think of any other card on the market with a £200ish fee waived in Y1.
That being the case, they may be willing to downgrade your card to the free 'Reward' credit card - sometimes you have to say you want to close the account before they'll offer this.0 -
Just to bring this to a close.
I applied and was accepted for the free version.
I could then swap the credit limits on the cards and close the Gold one.0
