Window Spraying…

Thoughts on this and bear with me…

We have brown windows and a brown door on our house but both I and the painters want to paint our gate grey as we think it looks more modern.

The Mrs (in her great wisdom) thinks it will clash with the window colours (pics below).  We kind of came to an expensive compromise in that maybe we’d do the gate in grey and then spray the windows grey as well.

The spraying of the windows in question - see below, would be around £1100.  I’m just wondering whether you guys think this is a reasonable price or whether it would be worth just replacing the windows entirely!!

I’ve included an example of what it might look like as well from the painters

Nobody is going to look at your grey gate and think oh how awful it doesn't match the windows.  I think the windows suit your house and absolutely don't replace perfectly good windows.

Grey is already going out of fashion. It will only be a couple of years, and the painted windows will look very dated.
Whilst light oak isn't the "in colour", it isn't as jarring as some colours.

I agree grey is a passing trend. I'd leave the window frames alone assuming they are uPVC. The gates they need quite a lot of prep before a couple of coats of paint. Harder to do them now the weather has changed.

I also prefer the existing windows.
Grey has been the fashion colour for all sorts of things for years. A longer lasting trend than most, but I think some people at least are getting fed up with the monochrome look.

Another point is that the window is designed not to fade significantly for many years. The film/coating that gives it the brown colour is especially formulated to withstand weather/UV.
Not sure if the paint will last as long, although presumably they do not just slap a tin of Wickes gloss on them, and use some special paint.
