Gas cooker - vacating Housing association flat

Options
Hi folks

I’m in the latter stages of clearing my late mother’s home - it’s a housing association property. The council are due to uplift various white goods next week and I had included the gas cooker on the list for uplift … but now realise disconnecting this safely is not so straightforward. One option is to employ services of a registered gas engineer I guess. But I am wondering whether just leaving it in situ is the most sensible option. Either the new tenant can use it or the HA can disconnect and remove it safely. Anyone got any experience or expertise in this field? Advice wld be appreciated.

Thank you!

Officially, you need a Gas Safe engineer to disconnect the bayonet fitting. A good engineer with check for leaks before leaving the premises in case the disconnection has disturbed a weak joint in the fixed pipe work.

It would be safer to leave it in situ, but to be fair to the HA, you should call them and ask them if they agree to the cooker being left, and if not, are they happy for you to engage a Gas Safe engineer? Sometimes they have their own engineers for such work.

It's the sort of quick job that an engineer can fit in on the way home, so I'd expect it to only cost about £80.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
