Can you help us understand/challenge a sudden HUGE reduction in state pension?

£884.60 per 4 weeks seems a bit odd for a "wrong amount" caused by incorrect contracted out recording, are you sure it is not £884.80 / £221.20 per week ?Did he get a forecast prior to retirement and check his contracted out status and COPE amount ?With a long contracted out history he would need all available post 2016 years filled to get close to a full new pension, what does his record show ?What benefits was he receiving from April 2016 ? Eligibility for ESA may come into play.2

If the DWP is recalculating NI contributions, presumably because they got it wrong originally, why would that be called a "change of circumstance" on the part of the recipient?0

I also wonder, do they re evaluate everybody? If so, how often? You'd think they would have enough to do with current work.Qyburn said:If the DWP is recalculating NI contributions, presumably because they got it wrong originally, why would that be called a "change of circumstance" on the part of the recipient?0 -
Update!
We received the second letter on Monday, it's rather ambiguously worded, hence the confusion from the DWP lady, but the ultimate effect will be a reduction of £1.71/calendar month - phew (although we must wait another three weeks til he gets his next SP, just to be sure we've calculated it correctly). Then today he received another letter from HMRC, along with a cheque for just over £500, a refund for tax overpaid in 23/24!Thanks for reading/commenting/sympathising!I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. a reduction of £1.71/calendar month
SP is not paid monthly and that figure does not compute with any ways of working it out.

He always multiplies weekly figure by 52 and divides by 12 to balance our books.molerat said:a reduction of £1.71/calendar monthSP is not paid monthly and that figure does not compute with any ways of working it out.

This still seems rather odd.
How many qualifying years did your husband have at 5/4/16?
And post 5/4/16?
What is stated to be your husband's weekly pension entitlement after the recalculation?0
