Autoaid and FCIB. Price and 'Admin and Service' charges

Options
I made the mistake of not informing Autoaid of my new email address. Got a text saying I had successfully renewed and nothing else. When I managed to check, the new price for a year was a whopping £95.54.  When I phoned up to cancel I was advised I would be charged £16 Admin charges and £9 Service charge. How do they get away with it?
Told them to refund me the balance and I would never use them again!
Legalised robbery.

You should have cancelled auto renewal when you took out the previous year's policy.

Auto renewal can be a godsend but you need to be on the ball.

Was it not on the policy last year that auto renew was on? Do you not share some of the blame by not updating your details - odds on they sent a reminder to your old address... maybe you should charge yourself £25 too ;)
  • AutoAid have just sent our renewal email. Suddenly the "Spouse premium" is listed separately as £10 which has been added to last year's premium to get this year's: £73.64. On MSE site a new customer gets everything for £57.28. This is insidious. It also say it will auto-renew - I am sure I would have had this changed. I don't like the way they have asdopted the old RAC/AA/Insurance method of "quietly" upping the cost to existing customers.
  • Just take out the breakdown insurance as a new customer.
    That's what I did.

Cancel your cover, get the wife to take out a new policy, then change back to yourself the next year.
