HP Laptop - Slow Response, Slow to find Wi-Fi, Slow to Boot

Hi Guys,

Just after any tips or advice you may have

My partner has a 1 year old HP laptop running vista premium, AMD Athlon, 1Gb Ram.

Whilst everything seemed good at first the boot times, times to wake from sleep, time to hook on to the wireless network and general responsiveness has gone so downhill its a bit of a joke

Scans provide nothing but im extremely sceptical about anti-virus packages anyway.

Anyone had the same problems, share any ideas?, Im bordering doing a full back up ont my portable hard drive and just master rebooting the whole thing

Thanks,

You have not said what anti-virus/spyware/malware software packages you are using but your system may benefit from using ccleaner here.

What you suggest is prob. best- tho you could try disabling bits of vista - you'll have to google- ,I don't use vista. Also remove as much start-up stuff as you can and bin any progs you don't use

do you defragrment regularly? and how about a registry clean up? try that, it often works for me in terms of load times and stuff.
  • I note that you are running 1gb of ram - 2gb would serve you better with Vista.

Try Clean Up for a complete degunk of old files - http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=223

    PC Decrapifier and guide: http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

Remove Norton or macfee and install AVG Free edition

As stated above defrag and ccleaner you could also use hijack this and untick anything you dont need loading at startup.

I also have an Hp laptop running windoes vista Premium and the same set up 1gb memory Amd Turion and i would agree 2gb of memory would be better and can be brought for about £35. I also turn off aero interface and i use nod32 anti virus i also use zonealarm as for the wireless side of things you could try changing your wireless channel if you are using a router, i recently had a problem with my Hp laptop where the wireless card was not working so i sent it back and asked them to replace the motherboard at the same time as it is a known problem and to my amazement they did. It is sometimes helpful to try a search engine for specific Hp problems
