Selling my car

Options
I badly need money to tide me over till I start my new job and get paid. I'm considering selling my car - a 63 reg astra estate. We buy any car say it's worth £2500, but I know from previous experience that they offer far less once you're face to face with them. Does anyone know the best way to do this? I don't know anything about cars!

You could advertise it privately on Autotrader.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

How much do you need?  How long does it need to cover you for?  What specifically do you need to spend the  money on?
If you need to sell quickly then WeBuyAnyCar are great.  You don't get much money buy the sale completes quickly and smoothly

..you could try Facebook market place?? But if you will need a car after you start work it may be more cost effectice to keep a car that you know...(assuming it is reliable)...??

  • If you’re willing to try the hassle of a private sale then still try wbac as well  Just be prepared to walk away if they reduce by what you deem unacceptable. You can do this very quickly.
All the other methods are more stressful and often result in pressured renegotiation too.

If you're not working you should be looking at Universal Credit or new-style JSA. If this is a short-term blip then selling the car quickly and then buying again later is likely to be an expensive way of doing things.

FWIW an Astra estate, average mileage 11 years old, good condition, you are looking at £4000-5000

Try Motorway as well. Might be a bit more difficult with an older car, but we used them last year to off load a car and  we got more than WBAC initially offered before they'd even started haggling down.
