What happens once you go mortgage free?

hi
i have the possibility to fully pay of my mortgage once our fixed rate ends next year.
i spoke to the bank and they said i call them a month before the deal ends and they give a redemption statement telling how much we owe.
i can then pay that to the bank directly and the house is ours.
crucially he said we don't need a solicitor to end the mortgage (music to my ears as they will want money for something i can do...?)
they then take their name of the title deeds
am i missing anything?
would like to know others experiences and what to expect
thanks

Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!1 -
Exactly what happened here. I already had the deeds. A letter from the bank to say the account was closed and that was it.
It is worth registering your property for updates on the land registry so that you can see the charge over the property has been removed without paying to check. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

thanks. we don't have the paper deeds and i've no idea where they are. i believe it is all done digital now anyway and you don't really need a physical copy
solicitors make this out to be a black art when it's actually a process you can put into one sentence0
