I'd top up my S&S ISA with max £20k immediately, invest it in global equity index tracker.

The remaining £20k I'd invest in the same ETF but in a GIA, and likely Bed & ISA most of it next tax year.

That might well be suitable for you, but the OP is likely to need the money in a few years, so investing it probably is not suitable. Especially in a high risk/volatile fund, when we have no idea of their risk tolerance.

    £15K into my pension
    £5K into my share ISA
    £5K into my cash ISA
    £15 holiday  :)

But, of course, that is relevant to my circumstances and wants.
    That's a proper MSE holiday!  :)
Maybe a camping holiday in Costa del Back Garden ?
  • if you will be saving it for over a year a high return ISA maybe
otherwise i'd put it all into premium bonds. you'll likely get returns after the first month and it can be taken out any time you need it. i'm a low risk investor so wouldn't be touching the markets and the like  :#
  • If I had 40k I would open up a business and employ my SEN son, would alone look at employing more SEN and people with disabilities to gain employment,
