Need for a solicitor?

Hi
I am 1 of 2 executors on our late parents estate. My brother, as the other executor, wishes to buy the house. He has a solicitor to buy the house. Do we need to employ the services of another solicitor to sell the house to him? I have had 2 quotes from 2 solicitors but the 3rd queried why we needed a solicitor to sell the house. She said it wasn't necessary. Is this correct? Has anyone experience of doing this? No stamp duty involved and deeds are there. Thanks

  • No you do not have to pay a second solicitor if you are happy with the price he is paying.

You don't need one. You literally just sign the forms his solicitor sends you and answer any questions they have. If he explains you don't have a solicitor then they should contact you directly.
If you didn't know the person then a solicitor is really recommended, but it would be a waste of money in this case in my opinion.
  • Is he getting a mortgage? If not, does he really need a solicitor....?
