Pleasantly surprised that the Flexplus monthly account fee taken by Nationwide on 30/11, presumably for December (fee usually paid in advance not in arrear?), was £13 and not (yet) £18.
From my experience neither in advance nor in arrears: they simply charge on the last day of the month.
I joined over 7 years ago when it was £10: joined in the middle of April'17 and was charged full tenner on 30th, so when I decided to ditch it I changed account type on 29/11 and wasn't charged at all...
As the new fee is from 1st Dec then they (probably) couldn't charge £18 in November...

I recently had the invite letter to renew my additional travel insurance policy upgrade, the quote was for around £110 more than last year, making the cost of running the FP account around £550 for the next 12 months.

My reason for maintaining the FP account has always been for the worldwide travel insurance, with the vehicle breakdown cover useful to have, and the phone cover immaterial as we don't run flash or expensive phones.

We have decided to suspend (abandon) worldwide travel and stick to the UK for the next few years as we approach our 80th year, so instead of renewing my upgrade I took out a separate UK only policy with Aviva, declaring all my ailments and paid around £225 with the September 20% discount offer applied. When my car insurance renewal comes up in October I'll include breakdown cover or just buy an AA or similar standalone policy, so around £250 in total, instead of £550.

Next job will be to downgrade the FP before the end of this month...
