OP isn't entitled to any inheritance - their MIL died intestate.

When you say it is 'unclear', have you actually checked: https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry

Is the ownership of the land on which it is built absolutely clear? It'll certainly need to be registered now: https://www.gov.uk/registering-land-or-property-with-land-registry
