    DON'T.
Pay that & it will go towards your last statement balance. Not you cash transaction.

As I said before ring & explain & they can change it to a purchase for you if you have not done before. Done this for plenty of customer who do it in error.
Do you really think I have a chance?

Maybe I'll ring them tomorrow - nothing to lose I guess.

Credit cards tend to be generous with first / genuine mistakes. They don't want disgruntled customers.

The key is to be nice, remember you are asking for a favour. We often see people on here who somehow contrive to convince themselves that their mistake is due to something the lender has done and get angry about it.

So I phoned HSBC late morning today.  The very polite customer service guy said that he could get the £3.00 fee dropped, and advised me (as others have on here) to pay off the £40 cashback charge as soon as possible. But after speaking to his superior, he could not do anything with the £40 cash withdrawal.

At the end-of-the day, it was my mistake for not concentrating, and I will post on here how the 'paying-off' part plays-out, when the earliest opportunity arises to do so.
  • Don't forget to add the fee to your repayment otherwise that will attract additional interest.

The fee has kindly been revoked by the CC company on this occasion, but I take your point.

Interest needs to be taken into account also.
