new credit rating searches

I recently opened an account with Experian and  few days ago noted 21 searches on the same date (Aug 28) from companies I have never heard of. Any idea wats going on?

I’ve had the same. I think that they do lots of soft searches automatically with providers to check eligibility for loans, credit cards etc. I’ve had the same with Clear Score, Credit Karma, Totally Money, Money Saving Expert and Snoop.
  • Are these hard or soft searches? The usual culprit for soft searches is from when you use comparison sites - insurance, CC eligibility checks, etc. Have you done any of those things around the time the searches are dated?
  • Yes, I've done insurance searches recently but only a few
  • Odds are that will be it then - when you use comparison sites you generally authorise them to allow all the companies they partner with to undertake their own searches in order to assess if they can provide a quote to you. There are usually a lot of companies who search, but not all of them will provide a quotation. Also don't be surprised if they keep searching you on a regular basis now that you have provided your information to them.
