this year we decided that we are going to be setting up some sort of online venture and have found a company called strato (who seem to have a decent reputation)... thy have an offer running where all their hosting packages are only £1... this includes domain name registration!
we went for the top package, which include registration of .com domains and got it for £1.. no catches (except VAT charged at the german rate of 19%... so £1,19)
offer ends on 31/12/07
seems like a good offer.... and you can cancel if you dont want to continue.

someone will find it useful i'm sure
and before anyone asks.... no, i am in no way linked to this company.

This is an offer for the 1st year - the price then goes up drastically (depending on the package). You can of course cancel without penalty, but I'm sure they are relying on people not transferring their hosting once the site is up and running.0

The price is for the first 12 months, and it is a 24 month contract. So you are paying a staggering £217 in the second year. Cancel it quick and find someone else. The webhost I use offers far more for far less - shop around.0

The pricing for the second year isnt that bad, sure there are cheaper out there but its acceptable. Depends on how good their support etc is to make it worth paying for the second year, in my experience cheap hosting usually isnt worth it.0 -
price is in line with most other hosts.. about £15 a month or so on average... i think for someone looking to maybe start up an internet shop or something linked to ebay... or maybe a site then see how it goes for 12 months with no outlay (£1.19)... if it goes pear shaped then cancel.
if not then you've had 12 months for nothing and then choose the best package for you.
not hard to transfer a domain to a different host and upload your files via ftp.
couldnt believe my luck when i found this, saved a couple of hundred quid.
ah well... cant please all the people all the time!Hating Hastings Direct!0 -

I pay $7.50 a month (£45 a year at current exchange rates) for 750GB storage and 7.5TB bandwidth, plus all the normal features you expect with a webhost, and have been with the company for many years.
£217 a year is NOT competitive. Remember you do not need to use a UK (or even European) company.0 -
Have to agree.
I've been using names.co.uk for a few years though various companys and would highly recomend them. UK based with good suport when you do have a question. I'm paying about 60 pound a year, and that did come with a free domain name too.
Also one thing to watch with any 'bargain' host who offers a domain, I'd check who is the registered owner of the domain, i.e. you or the host and further more what there charges are likely to be should you want to transfer it elsewhere.0 -

I have used Strato for about 2 years now since they first expanded to do .uk domains and I have to admit they are fantastic, I have two packages with them at the moment one full priced easy host and one £1 for the year Enterprise Package.
They have had this deal up for about 6 months and I signed up on the first day, my contract is definatly for 12 months, however this looks like it has changed Give them a call if you are in doubt there number is free and is open till 10pm.
As for the price after the deal the support they offer is top drawer and on a free phone number to boot. The price for the Enterprise package is £14.99 a month for the second year but remember that this does includ 10 Domain names including .com and .org which are not cheap.
To host a business site I feel the outlay is worth it as they are reliable, it is also possible for a few people to club together and split the package, although one will have to be the "owner".The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

10 .com or .org domain names comes to £75 a year maximum. Absorbed into the account, it is still very overpriced.
This post is in 'Quick! Grabbit while you can', so all I am doing is pointing out that it is definetly NOT good value, despite its marketing.0 -
well in one breath it's "beware cheap hosting companies as they are cheap for a reason...." and in the next.
having only dealt with oneandone in the past and having breifly scouted around at 123-reg's prices and similar companies i still think it's reasonably priced. Have spoken to their helpline and you can downgrade your package after the 12 months... the only buggar is you are tied in for 24 months. Initially i thought it was just the standard 12 months. but i still think it's a good deal, and a "grabbit" as time sensitive.
glad i took the offer up.Hating Hastings Direct!0
