Ismybillfair.com British Gas tarrif switch

I was considering switching to avoid the latest energy increases and on Martin's advice ( as always!) looked at the new Britsh Gas tarrifs - I am an existing customer - dual fuel and direct debit. Martin recommended looking at 12 month fix v9, which was a 6% increase but stil worthwhile - however when I logged into BG site the only 12month fix was v11 - which was a 10% increase. So, I googled 'British Gas 12 month fix v9' and up came ismybillfair.com. Not heard of them before, they claim to be a partner of BG, and I signed up (wisely or foolishly) with them to arrange v9, with an e-mail coming back from them telling me it was all in hand and I'd hear from BG in up to 14 days. In hindsight ( a wonderful thing....) I should have just have gone back to BG and asked them direct to give me v9. So, have I done the right thing by using this third party? Or not?! There doesn't seem to be any extra charge, to me, at least. TIA!

I'd be surprised if they can switch you to a tariff that is no longer offered.

Hello Paul,

I have just done the same as you and applied for the BG  Fixed Tariff 12M v9 via Ismybillfair.com.

We are existing British Gas customers and I contacted them beforehand and asked them if they could improve on the fixed tariffs they have on offer on the moment. I was told they could not as they cannot change/do not have access to the tariffs.

I checked Ismybillfair.com and they seem to have good reviews so we will see in the next 14 days if British Gas comes back to us and honour this deal.

If they were to refuse, I guess we will still have time to shop around for a fixed tariff before the CAP change on 01/10/2024.

I tried the website just to see what it would say and it said it couldn't better my tariff. That's a good sign that at least it's honest.

Outfox The Market generally cheapest for dual fuel, new version out, Gas back down in price same as current energy cap, electricity 2.5p ish kWh cheaper than current BG and Octopus fixes.

Following my message from yesterday, we had a response from British Gas today, they confirmed that our new tariff Fixed Tariff 12M v9 via Ismybillfair will start from tomorrow.

Thank you for your comment, Outfox The Market do have indeed good tariffs and if we had not already applied for the BG tariff, I would have considered the, especially because they also have good reviews.

That's really interesting to know.  I wonder how that all works in the background, like if they pre book a certain allowance of a particular tariff or something.

Hello, I am not too sure, it seems that Ismybillfair are able to negotiate old tariffs that you cannot see anywhere as a customer with your provider, I was only shown that tariff offer, no tariff offer/comparisons from other providers.

I can also confirm that this British Gas Fixed Tariff 12M v9 is now showing on our BG website page and and is live.
We were told that it could take up to 14 days for confirmation from BG, and up to 28 days for it to be in place.
It actually only took 2 days.

Looking on BG page at 6.50 and v9 not there!
