Advice needed for repair complaint
Options
Looking for some general advice about how to progress with a complaint against Honda UK. The fuel pump on our CRV (4.5 yrs old. Approx 44k mileage) prematurely failed last Sept (2023). Honda dealership couldn’t pinpoint why or guarantee it wouldn’t happen again so I agreed to replace at a relatively hefty cost. Just last week we received a recall notice from Honda UK due to faulty fuel pumps in CRVs. I contacted Honda to try to reclaim the cost for the fuel pump that “failed prematurely” (as diagnosed by Honda dealership on repair invoice). They have rejected the claim as have the dealership as the car was out of warranty period.
What are my options? I feel we must have had a faulty product all along and have had to pay out for a repair which was caused through no fault of my own. Any advice would be appreciated. Do I have any recourse under Consumer Rights Act?

What were the specifics of your fault and of the recall? Are they from the same fault or could they arguably be unrelated?

I presume this is the 2020 "low density" impeller recall, and they've just got round to you?
Is your car petrol or diesel?
Was it your high pressure pump or lift pump that was replaced?0 -
Not sure if the US CRV is the same or not but this might give some food for thought.

Assuming it's the same recall, then it's about a fault in the moulding of the plastic impeller inside the low-pressure lift pump, which is located within the fuel tank. Over time, the plastic can become soaked with fuel and fail.
If that's what happened to your car, then I'd expect a goodwill payment from Honda, but the recall's been about long enough that the dealer should have known about it.
The recall was originally announced in August 2020 - but there have been problems with supplying sufficient replacement parts, hence the delays.

But there are two fuel pumps on modern cars - the other one, the expensive one, is the high-pressure one fitted onto the engine.
The lift pump's job is just to deliver fuel to the HP one at a pressure just a little bit higher than the air in your tyres. The high pressure one then pressurises it to VERY high pressures for injection into the engine, about 100x higher...
If the failure was unrelated to that recall, then - nope.1
