Stressing about Court letter - Parking Charge Notice, Parking Eye, Derbyshire Service Station

Hi all,

I'm stressing about this Parking Charge Notice:

Date of issue: 04/04/2024
Date of issue: 08/04/2024

Euro Garages Markham Vale Services - Derbyshire

I was in the area for work and stopped to have lunch, do some work, and make phone calls.

No clear reason given for the PCN but I think it's because you're permitted to 2 hours free and I over stayed by exactly 30 minutes. The initial cost was £60, then £100, and now it is £232

I was a customer at the Starbucks there, had lunch and refreshments, but it was the day that I was exchanging contracts on a house and it was very very stressful (on, off, on, off, and on the phone to solicitors a lot and also trying to work from my laptop)

As I ended up moving into my new property that evening, I didn't receive any letters from them until they've been forwarded to me (via family member, I didn't update DVLA or log book yet).

13th August i've now been issued a letter that states:

"Judgment for Claimant"
The Court office at Northampton
It isn't clear what it wants from me, other than more money.

I should have responded sooner of course, but it was a very stressful time.

What is this letter that i've had through? And what shall I do next? Do I have to pay such an extorniate amount??

Pay it within 30 days.  In full. Sorry that isn't what you wanted to hear but you have a CCJ and it disappears if you pay it immediately.

If only you'd got your post a month earlier we could have helped you to defend the claim but it is too late now.

ParkingEye took your case to court very quickly. Horrible company IMHO.  But you can't safely overstay in ANPR car parks.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Oh really! This is a CCJ?

And there's nothing I can do at this point to contest it? I can't believe they can do this over a 30 minute over stay at service station :(

You could have defended it in August if you'd collected your post and shown us the claim form.

You are now too late. Sorry. Yes it's a CCJ by default because you failed to defend.

There is no point trying the alternative (getting the CCJ set aside due to being at a different address) because a 30 minute overstay v ParkingEye isn't one you'd likely win.

I didn't receive a claim form (unless it got lost somewhere), it's all complicated because I moved out so I can't be 100% sure.

I'll just pay it :( I can't believe they do this
