Carpet Moth

We have an infestation of carpet moths - the shells are sprinkled around under the bed in our spare bedroom - plus we see odd moths flying around.
The carpet has been eaten in places - so long term needs replacing
I believe that the carpet is 80% wool
What is the best way to get rid of them ?
Spray ? - which brand ?
Lavender etc  ?

  • I had this in a very small area under a coffee table and ant powder was recommended. Sprinkle it on, leave a couple of days and hoover up. I've had no recurrence of the little blighters since. The powder is easily available in supermarkets.
  • You could use some bug bombs, powder, spray, also hoover the carpet daily.

You can get the proper stuff from B&Q - I would prefer to use that
but would spray be better ?

  • What is the difference between RENTOKIL PSC 49 and RENTOKIL PSC 50 ?
As far as powder is concerned ?

  • Another shout for ant powder. Cheap and cheerful.
  • OK Ant powder it may be then
Do you have to coat the whole carpet or just areas of it ?

I saw bombs and wondered whether they would work - fun eh ?
I understand that they are coming towards the end of their lifecycle now (April to October) - do they hybernate / pupae or what ?

I currently have carpet moths eating my wool carpets, I couldn;t use the bomb things because of pets so I opted for one of these  https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CW5TR8YQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title   I'm clearing out about 5 a day

They work on live moths and their caterpillars, not sure if they kill the eggs though.

Having seen the results of them before it is amazing how many dead insects will be on the floor after using them. Even in an empty home to make sure it is free of things like bed bugs before moving in, there will be a lot that come out of hidden places.

Bombs can leave the room quite smokey smelling for a while and definitely a job requiring the smoke alarms being disabled. They do alas kill the moths enemy the  spiders. I've used forte fog fumers and they are effective.

The best strategy I've found is to move every bed cupboard etc out from the wall and hoover under with a nozzle along all carpet edges and crevaces. Then spray with insecticide - I use 'protector c' - far better on the eye than powder. Powder where it can't be seen sure. The spray is available on Amazon.

Then at night leave one low energy light on In The house shining on a fly paper and the adult ones will.tend to migrate to it. Keep it far enough away not to heat up.

It's not a one time thing they will come back
