Does RingGo work with non-UK numberplates?

Someone with non-UK numberplates will be visiting me by car, and I need to buy them a visitor's permit via the RingGo app.

This might be a stupid question, but does RingGo work with non-UK numberplates? Do I need to do anything on the app to say which country the car is from or do I just key in the numberplate as normal and the app accepts it despite it not being a British format?

Maybe ask them directly. I would have thought they should

Perhaps a bit of a selfish attitude, but does it matter whether it works or not?

If it works, then that's great. Just what you want.

If it doesn't work, then one thing is for sure... your visitor from abroad won't be receiving a PCN.
Of course in this case it is possible that someone with a UK registered car may receive a PCN.

Try typing the reg.no. into RingGo and let us know what happens.
  • Thank you for your thoughts.

I've had a play around and it seems that the RingGo app will accept any format of registration number. I found it a bit odd that there's nowhere to flag that it's a non-UK numberplate (particularly as when you type it in  it appears in the UK typeface on a facsimile rear numberplate), but I assume that it'll still do the job and my visitor won't be getting a ticket. I'll come back to this thread if that does happen of course!

Well the DVLA won't be giving any parking company your visitor's address, will they?   ;)
  • Just to say it all worked fine. Traffic warden checked the vehicle and it showed up as parking paid as expected
