Roof work still leaking.

Several months ago we had a leak come through the bedroom. It took a while to find a roofer who would even turn up. He is on trading standards and from appearances had great reviews too.

The roofer turned up, provided us with a quote. He said they would make it water tight and guarantee the work. They turned up and did the work and sent us photos too that looked good. Said it would be water tight before leaving. We paid him 2.5k.

Then the next day there was a heavy downpour and we still had the same leak. Since then it’s been three months of calling them. He keeps saying he will turn up and then not actually turning up.

It’s just very stressful still having the leak and to now look in to another roofer. A part of me thinks we have just lost that money - lost because we need to pay another roofer to fix the same leak.

Has anyone had any luck on their roofer turning back up to fix a leak after the initial work? Or is it a lost hope?

Thankyou in advance for any comments or advice.

If he is on a Trading Standards scheme then you need to contact them, tell them what has happened. They monitor traders on their schemes so if one is not conducting business as they should they will contact them
  • Thankyou. Just to mention that the roofer finally managed to return with another roofer. The new roofer searched for five minutes and found the hole just slightly up from the original work. (The original work was just a visual look to see some cracks and decided that was causing it). We did hire him specifically to fix that leak and he guaranteed it. It turns out the original person doesn’t know much about roofs at all. Hopefully it is fixed now but we will find out soon.

What work did the original guy actually do for £2.5k?
That's a very significant sum, and would usually suggest a fair bit of obvious work
How long did the original work take? How many folk on the job?
    Ladders? Scaffold?
