New 5.1 speakers query...

I've just bought some Creative SBS 580 5.1 speakers. They are connected and work ok when configured (using Vista). i.e. I get sound from all 5 speakers and the sub woofer.

However, I have 2 queries:

1) In set up they appear as Realtek and not Creative - any ideas why? I have scanned for new hardware.

2) I played a DVD with 5.1 sound, but I don't seem to be able to get sound coming from all speakers. I use Power DVD and have set the audio to what I think it should be. Anyone else had any problems with this?

Thanks.

    1. it shows as a realtek sound card because you probably have onboard sound, not a creative sound card.

    2. is the speaker config set to 5.1 in control panel > sounds and audio devices > advanced button (near the bottom of the window)?

I can't find what you describe via control panel (I'm on Vista).

I have gone through the speakers properties and gone to the advanced tab there - which I assume is what you mean. The speakers seem fine via this i.e. a sound is played on each speaker inc. the woofer. No problems there.
  • There might be something here, search for 5.1
