Missing certificate for self-certified building near a sewer

I had an extension built in 2018 and had to re-route a sewer pipe, but this came within the scope of the self-certification rules and I paid the fee.
Despite carefully filing away all paperwork relating to the extension, I'm now unable to locate the certificate. I've contacted Thames Water stating my address and their reference number but was informed they can't find anything, so could I confirm the address. I've also checked my bank statements and can't find an entry to prove I paid by BACS. If I wrote a cheque then the payee details do not show on the statement.
Perhaps the council surveyor would've checked for compliance when he signed off the completion certificate?
As a missing certificate may cause difficulties when selling the house, I'm wondering how this is going to be resolved.

If it was self-certified by whoever did the work, then a copy of the certification should have been sent to your council's Building Control department. So try asking them.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1
